Chemical formula: NH4Cl
Chemical name: Ammonium Chloride, Ammonium Chloride
Origin: NBT Chemical
Specification: 25 kg/bag
Physical properties: white, colorless, odorless, crystalline or granular, salty taste, hygroscopic
Chemical properties:
Ammonium chloride appears to sublimate with high temperatures however it actually decomposes into gaseous ammonia and hydrogen chloride.
NH4Cl → NH3 + HCl
Ammonium chloride reacts with a strong base, such as sodium hydroxide, to release ammonia gas:
NH4Cl + NaOH → NH3 + NaCl + H2O
Similarly, ammonium chloride also reacts with alkali metal carbonates at high temperatures, giving ammonia and alkali metal chlorides:
2 NH4Cl + Na2CO3 → 2 NaCl + CO2 + H2O + 2 NH3
A solution of about 5% by weight of ammonium chloride in water will have a pH in the range of 4.6-6.0.
Some reactions of ammonium chloride with other chemicals are endothermic such as the reaction with barium hydroxide and the water solubility reaction.
